Fault Description: A John Deere S670 Combine Harvester experiences intermittent issues where the header height control becomes unresponsive. The operator cannot raise or lower the header using the joystick, and the automatic height control system also fails to maintain the set height, leading to uneven cutting and potential header damage.

Initial Checks: The first step is to check for any visible damage to wiring harnesses connecting the header to the combine, especially at pivot points. Check the hydraulic fluid level and condition, as low or contaminated fluid can cause erratic behavior.
Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs): Access the machine's diagnostic system through the command center display. Look for codes related to the header control unit (HCU), height sensors, or CAN bus communication errors. A common code might indicate a loss of signal from one of the header height sensors.
Sensor Inspection: The header height is typically measured by potentiometers or ultrasonic sensors. Inspect these sensors for dirt, damage, or misalignment.
